Upon completion of this module, which includes Lectures 16 and 17, students will have accomplished the following:

MLO 9.1: Students will recognize how the advent of photography in the 19th century changed the definition of what qualified as a work of art.
MLO 9.2: Students will be able to differentiate between the different processes of producing photographs during the 19th century.
MLO 9.3: Students will recognize some of the scientific applications of photography in the 19th century.
MLO 9.4: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the assigned readings (Chapter 2.1–2.5) from Gateways to Art.

In this module, you will:

Watch: Lecture 16: Visual Culture and the Advent of Photography (see videos below)
Watch Lecture 17: Visual Culture of Manifest Destiny: Representations of Native Americans (to be published Wednesday)
Complete: Lecture Quiz 16/17 (to be published Wednesday)
Complete: Reading Quiz 3: Gateways to Art. Ch. 2.1-2.5

While viewing the slides, be sure to take notes just as you would during a regular face-to-face classroom lecture. This will put you in good shape to take Lecture Quiz 16/17, which is due no later than 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 24th.
