Course Description
This course is part of the Bridging Opportunities in Leadership & Diversity (BOLD) learning community. Through this learning community experience, you will LAS 205X and 206X in your second year, engage in leadership affirmation and development activities, as well as professional development activities relevant to your own career and personal goals. You will also interact with faculty, staff, and peer mentors who will support your transition to the University. Learning community participants are also more likely to remain at Iowa State and are more satisfied with their academic and overall student experience.

Course Objectives (COs)
Upon completing this course, students will be able to do the following:
CLO 1: List campus resources and identity-based organizations on campus that could help oneself in academic, social, and professional development areas.
CLO 2: Articulate own leadership strengths and areas for improvement.
CLO 3: Identify Iowa State University’s campus community-related needs.
CLO 4: Collaborate effectively with peer multicultural leaders on a leadership project.
CLO 5: Evaluate project team members’ contributions critically at different phases of a project.
CLO 6: Communicate critical feedback to project team members and other project teams in an effective manner.
CLO 7: Execute a campus leadership project that directly addresses a campus community need.
Course Materials

Grading Scheme
Grading scheme: The table below shows the Canvas default grading scheme. This is a Canvas sample grading schema, and not an institutional grading schema. Make sure the grading schema you describe in your syllabus matches your grading schema in the course-specific settings.

Feedback
All graded assessments will be returned with feedback within 7 days of the due date. Personalized feedback will be provided for each assignment and reflection. In addition, responses to common questions and unclear content will be posted at the conclusion of each module.
Missed and Late Coursework
If a due date becomes an issue for any reason, please discuss this with Ananda Muhammad (nanda@iastate.edu) and arrangements will be made if possible. Late assignments are not accepted without prior approval. Approval must be obtained before the assignment deadline.
There are no make-up assignments for this course. However, should you require a different format for an assignment to better meet your learning needs please discuss this with us. As long as the alternative assignment meets the learning objectives, arrangements may be possible.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend class meetings as scheduled. If you need to miss a class for any reason a 24-hour notice is expected, except for emergencies and extenuating circumstances. Please contact Arnold Woods (aawoods@iastate.edu) to discuss any accommodation needed.
If you miss class for any reason, you will be expected to complete an online discussion post about the week's topic or related current event. Discussion posts should be dated, and no less than 300 words.

If you become concerned about your instructor's class management, please communicate your concerns with your instructor. Concerns sometimes relate to grading methods, paper turnaround time, and course policies, as examples.
