This is an optional extra credit assignment worth 50 additional points toward your final grade. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is as follows:
Using the internet, find a work of two-dimensional art (painting, drawing, print) that was created during the period 1500 to 1815 and is relevant to one of the themes or topics covered in Part 1 of the course (weeks 1, 2, and 3). Upload that image as a jpeg. Then, using the text-entry feature, note the year the image was created, who made it, and where they made it. Follow that with a brief statement of one to three sentences, explaining what in your opinion makes the image relevant to Part 1 of the course. To qualify for full credit, this statement has to be more complex than: "we talked about X, and this image shows it/them." It needs to include some sort of "I picked it because" statement that explains the historical significance of the image or what it depicts.
To qualify for credit, your selected image must meet the following requirements:
1. It cannot be an image that appears in one of the lecture videos or in the textbook.
2. It cannot be a portrait of a single person in isolation (that is: no pictures of an Important Person We Studied standing alone in front of a velvet curtain -- it's got to be an image that shows more than one person, or some other subject, such as a still-life, a landscape, etc.).
(Hint: it is OK if your selected image is by an artist who also painted/drew pictures included in either the textbook or the lecture videos. This may help as a place to start.)
The assignment is due Sunday, April 16.
