Criteria Ratings Pts
Participation:
Regularly prepared with completed phases of the project such as in-progress milestones and completion of exercises, proactive participation in studio, timely submission of work, the proactive engagement in work during studio work periods and classroom discussions, and the ability to translate constructive feedback into one’s own work, and demonstrates initiative and leadership within the classroom.
threshold: pts
15 to >13.5 pts
Excellent
Visible and highly identifiable effort and participation.
13.5 to >12.0 pts

Process:
Consistency and evolution between exercises is revealed through communication, relationship of, and influence between material use and technique that is original and developed. Success of iteration is revealed through the production of visual investigations and experimentation made evident by the effort, amount of, and perseverance in the production of work.
threshold: pts
35 to >31.5 pts
Excellent
Consistency and evolution of/between exercises is highly visible and identifiable. Iteration is highly evident in the process and production of work.
31.5 to >28.0 pts
Good
Consistency and evolution of/between exercises is visibly identifiable. Iteration is evident in the process and production of work.
28 to >24.5 pts
Satisfactory
Consistency and evolution of/between exercises is somewhat evident. Some iteration is evident in the process and production of work.
24.5 to >21.0 pts
Poor
Consistency and evolution of/between exercises is unclear and lacks connection. Iteration is weak in the process and production of work.
21 to >0 pts
Unsatisfactory
There is no consistency and evolution of/between exercises. Lack of and/or no evidence of iteration in the process and production of work.

Product:
The culmination of the project reveals a collection of work that captures the concept of the project: iteration, evolution, and interpretation of pattern and texture. This is made evident by the execution of compositional strategies and organization, mark making and media representation, range of employed techniques, and tonal value ranges in b/w and color, and craft, concluding the individual's efforts to achieve dynamic and evolving pattern and texture imagery.
threshold: pts
35 to >31.5 pts
Excellent
Project concept is highly visible and identifiable, exceptional execution of compositional skills and media technique, and products are exceptionally developed and crafted.
31.5 to >28.0 pts
Good
Project concept is visibly identifiable, execution of compositional skills and media technique are well done, and products are developed and crafted well.
28 to >24.5 pts
Satisfactory
Project concept is evident, but lacks originality and development, execution of compositional skills and media technique are satisfactory and/or predictable, products are somewhat developed and/or craft is an issue.
24.5 to >21.0 pts
Poor
Project concept is unclear and lacks development, execution of compositional skills and media technique are poor and/or minimally explored, products lack developed and/or poor craft.
21 to >0 pts
Unsatisfactory
Project concept is not evident and lacks development, execution of compositional skills and media technique are minimally explored and/or undeveloped, products are poorly developed and/or missing, and/or poor craft.

Presentation:
Success of and understanding of concepts introduced in the project are made evident by the display of visual artifacts produced and the makers verbal participation and efforts to clarify and describe their experiences through the evolving exercises. This is observed through informal and formal reviews such as desk crits, pinup and small group discussions, and final project review. Verbal also includes the use of learned design terminology explored in the project to communicate a concept. Physical presentation is determined by the informal and formal presentation setting with consideration to preparedness, care and craft of display and arrangement of work to communicate the sequential concept of the project.
threshold: pts
15 to >13.5 pts
Excellent
Exceptional ability to describe one’s own work and that of their peers, consistent participation in discussions and reviews, takes great care in the arrangement and display of physical work.
13.5 to >12.0 pts
Good
Ability is evident to describe one’s own work and that of their peers, consistent participation in discussions, prepared with work for informal and formal reviews, and is careful in the arrangement and display of physical work.
12 to >10.5 pts
Satisfactory
Willing to participate in discussions when called upon, is able to describe one’s own work, prepared with work for informal and formal reviews, and/or is not careful in the arrangement and display of physical work.
10.5 to >9.0 pts
Poor
Minimal participation in discussions and/or is unable to describe one's own work, and/or unable to describe the work of peers, and/or typically unprepared with work for informal and formal reviews, and/or lacks consideration in the arrangement and display of physical work.
9 to >0 pts
Unsatisfactory
Minimal and/or no participation in discussions, and/or is unable to describe one's own work, and/or unable to describe the work of peers, and/or commonly not prepared with work for informal and formal reviews, and/or lacks any consideration in the arrangement and display of physical work. Also, not appearing at the final review for any project without an excuse is grounds for failing the project and the course. Please see the syllabus for more detail.
