About:

The Boeing Advanced Fabrication and Assembly Shop is a staffed shop that is open to anyone at Iowa State University. The shop has a fully furnished metals and woods shop and offers training and supervision on each piece of equipment. Unfortunately, for those people that prefer to have parts made for them, the shop does not accept fabrication requests. More information about training and job requests can be found below.

Safety Training:

To use a piece of equipment in 1211, you must:

1. Click on the "Modules" tab, and complete the Required Safety Trainings.

2. Review the Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) module for a piece equipment, and complete the corresponding quiz.

3. Use the following link to see what 101 sessions are currently being offered!

101/102 sessions are bundles of tools commonly used together in the shop, although you may not need all of the tools in the bundle, a session is the easiest way to get trained on equipment.

*Training scheduling is dependent on shop volume. The shop will do it's best to make accommodations for everyone, however, due to the reactive nature of the shop, scheduled trainings are not guaranteed.

*Some pieces of equipment are not included in the 101 bundles, email the shop supervisors at sictrwoodmetal@iastate.edu to schedule these unique trainings. Be patient if all 101 offerings are full, one may open up and we are continually adding new opportunities

4. After completing training, you will be issued an equipment badge. These badges are required to do any work in the facility, so ensure you bring yours every time you wish to work in the facility.

*You may only use pieces of equipment that you have been trained on and have a stamp on your badge for. DO NOT attempt to use any equipment you aren't trained on.

5. Contact the Makerspace Supervisors directly with any questions or concerns.
