Concert Reflection 1 (Instructions)

Reflection Topic 1: Active Listening (CLO1 & CLO2)

Select one 2-3 minutes Country or Pop song*, either vocal or instrumental, on YouTube or any virtual platform. Reflect on your responses to that song, including physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual responses (Lesson 2 - LO2.2) as well as the differences in actively listening to music versus passively hearing it (Lesson 1 - LO1.1).

*If the song is longer than 3 minutes, you may select the start and stop points.

To receive concert reflection points, you are expected to complete the following:

  1. Submit the title of the song, name(s) of the performer(s), the video link and a 80 to 100-word reflection on Concert Reflection 1 (Submission) by Friday, September 8 at 5:00 PM.
    The penalty for late submission is a deduction of five (5) points per 24 hours after the due time. 
  2. The written reflection and required information should be completed using the Download "Virtual Concert Reflection 1" template
  3. Attend The Concert Reflection meeting you signed-up for via Webex
  4. Give a 1-min introduction or reflection about your music selection at the Concert Reflection meeting. The content of your presentation could be the same as your written reflection.
  5. Actively listen to the music selections and participate in the group discussion at the Concert Reflection meeting. The discussion will cover several topics, including:
      • Describing the difference between hearing and listening. (Lesson 1a - LO1.1)
      • Using active listening skills to identify sounds. (Lesson 1c - LO1.3 & 1.4)
      • Discussing music as a multidimensional language. (Lessons 2a & 2c - LO2.1)
      • Identifying four types of human responses to music. (Lesson 2b - LO2.2)
      • Explaining the social and cultural influences of music. (Lesson 3a - LO3.1)
      • Discussing the functions of music in different musical settings. (Lesson 3b - LO3.2)

It is important to actively participate in group discussions and engage in learning activities during the meeting. Respond promptly and accurately to all posted questions on the chat. Be respectful towards your classmates, ask questions, and make sure to retain the knowledge you have learned.

Be punctual!

Meetings will be locked when the meeting starts. For the best learning experience, you are required to join the meeting with audio and video. In addition to a stable internet connection and adequate bandwidth, it is highly recommended using wired connection versus WiFi.

 Important

Contact the instructor BEFORE attending each Virtual Concert Reflection meeting IF you have issues with being on camera during the meetings.
