Reflection Topic 2: Tempo and Rhythm in Music (CLO3)

Select one 2-3 minutes New Age or International Folk Music on YouTube or any virtual platform*. Reflect on the tempo and rhythm of that music, and discuss the influence of culture and time period. (Lesson 4 - LO4.1 & LO4.2 and Lesson 5 - LO5.3)

*If the video is longer than 3 minutes, you may select the start and stop points.

To receive meeting and concert reflection points, you are expected to complete the following:

  1. Submit the title of the song, name(s) of the performer(s), the video link and a 80 to 100-word reflection on Concert Reflection 2 (Submission) by Friday, September 29 at 5:00 PM.
    The penalty for late submission is a deduction of five (5) points per 24 hours after the due time. 
  2. The written reflection and required information should be completed using the "Virtual Concert Reflection 2" template Download template
  3. Attend The Concert Reflection meeting you signed-up for via Webex
  4. Give a 1-min introduction or reflection about your music selection at the Concert Reflection meeting. The content of your presentation could be the same as your written reflection.
  5. Actively listen to the music selections and participate in the group discussion at the Concert Reflection meeting. During the discussion, you will be asked to:
      • Describe the tempo and rhythm. (Lessons 4a & 4b - LO4.1)
      • Select tempo markings for the music. (Lesson 4b - LO4.2) 
      • Identify the beat. (Lesson 4c - LO4.3)
      • Identify the meter. (Lesson 5c - LO5.3)
      • Discuss the influence of culture and time period on rhythm. (CLO3)

It is important to actively participate in group discussions and engage in learning activities during the meeting. Respond promptly and accurately to all posted questions on the chat. Be respectful towards your classmates, ask questions, and make sure to retain the knowledge you have learned.

  1. Click “Find Appointment.”
  2. Click the date/time of the Concert Reflection meeting you plan to attend.

Be punctual!

Meetings will be locked when the meeting starts. For the best learning experience, you are required to join the meeting with audio and video. In addition to a stable internet connection and adequate bandwidth, it is highly recommended using wired connection versus WiFi.
